Cancer Incidence and Mortality

Incidence measures the number of new cases during a specific time period. A cancer incidence rate is the number of new cancers of a specific site/type occurring in a specified population during a year, usually expressed as the number of cancers per 100,000 population at risk.

Mortality measures the number of deaths during a specific time period. A cancer mortality rate is the number of deaths, with cancer as the underlying cause of death, occurring in a specified population during a year, usually expressed as the number of deaths due to cancer per 100,000 population.

The TCR Web Query Tool is an online, interactive tool that can be utilized to obtain Texas cancer incidence and/or mortality data at the county, region, or state level. The tool enables users to investigate rates and counts by sex, cancer site, race/ethnicity, and year of diagnosis. It also generates customized maps, tables, and bar graphs of incidence and mortality rates.
