Purpose

The mission of the Office of Tobacco Prevention and Control (OTPC) is to reduce the health and economic toll tobacco has placed on the citizens of Texas.

Services Provided by Tobacco Prevention and Control Program

  • Promotion of tobacco education activities in the workplace, community, school, and healthcare institutions
  • Provide technical assistance in the development of non-smoking ordinances and policies
  • Surveillance and documentation of activities to promote policies, cessation programs, and tobacco education
  • Provide direct assistance to communities, schools, and health care providers in the implementation of non-smoking activities and programs

  • Catch My Breath
    • A free, evidence-based prevention program for grades 5-12 that reduces students’ likelihood to vape.
  • Healthy Futures
    • A free, evidence-based intervention program for students who have been caught vaping on school property.  Meets the educational requirements of House Bill 114.

  • Texas Quitline
    • The Texas Tobacco Quitline provides confidential, free, and convenient cessation services to Texas residents ages 13 and older. Nicotine replacement therapy and quit coaching sessions are available for adults ages 18 and older. There is also a youth digital program available for those ages 13-17.
  • Learn About Quitting Smoking Medicines
    • A CDC guide to quit-smoking medicines, help on using them, and answers to common questions.
  • Smokefree.gov
    • A website that will help you create a quit plan. There is specialized support for veterans, women, teens, those over 60, and native Spanish speakers.
