Clinical Chemistry Testing Services
The Clinical Chemistry Laboratory provides clinical testing services in support of departmental programs. The primary programs including Texas Health Steps (EPSDT) and HIV/STD.
Microbiology Unit
The Microbiology Unit has the testing capacity and technology for species identification and isolation, genomic sequencing, phenotypic and molecular characterization, colonization screening, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing for select antimicrobial resistant (AR) microorganisms. We also respond to and assists in public health responses to health threats posed by various pathogenic bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi.
Emergency Response
The Emergency Response team provides support and resources for biological and chemical incidents through technical training, laboratory expertise, and analyses.
Environmental Sciences Laboratory
The Environmental Sciences Branch provides reliable, high-quality chemical and radiological analytical services as required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Safe Drinking Water Act.
Newborn Screening Laboratory
The Texas Newborn Screening Laboratory provides testing for more than 50 disorders or medical conditions. This in accordance with Texas law (Health and Safety Code, Chapter 33) which requires these laboratory tests to help find infants who may have one or more of the disorders or medical conditions.
