Can Alzheimer's Be Prevented?

We don't know for sure if Alzheimer's disease can be prevented, but researchers have found ways to reduce your risk.

The Alzheimer’s Association explains that Alzheimer’s usually happens because of a mix of different factors. These include your age, your genes (family history), your environment, your lifestyle, and other health conditions. While some things—like your age or family history—can’t be changed, others can. For example:

  • Keeping your blood pressure under control
  • Staying active with regular exercise

Scientists are working to find new ways to detect who is at the highest risk and how to lower that risk.
