DSHS focuses on public health. Our job is to improve the health, safety, and well-being of Texans to achieve our vision of A Healthy Texas. DSHS concentrates on infectious disease prevention, disaster response, and tracking public health data. We also maintain one of the largest laboratories in the nation and work with health departments to deliver services across the state.
